ALTERNATIVE CURRENT FIELD MEASUREMENT
The Alternating Current Field Measurement (ACFM) technique is a non-contact electromagnetic technique capable of both detecting and sizing (length and depth) defects in metals. The basis of the technique is that an alternating current flows in a thin skin near the surface of any conductor. By introducing a remote uniform current into an area of the component under test, when there are no defects present, the electrical current will be undisturbed. If a crack is present the current flows around the ends and down the faces of the crack.

Alternative Current Field Measurement: Level 1
This course is designed for you if you are a currently or previously approved 3.4U Inspection Controller, a currently or previously approved CSWIP 3.1U or 3.2U Diver, a surface practitioner certificated under PCN or CSWIP, or qualified in a relevant engineering science.

Alternative Current Field Measurement: Level 2
This course will teach you about welding product technology, electrical and electromagnetic theory, ACFM detection – identification of longitudinal and transverse cracks, and instruction writing. You will also be taught level 2 software commands, sizing for length and depth, reporting, and backing-up data.

Alternative Current Field Measurement: Level 3
Alternating Current Field Measurement (ACFM) level 3 course is designed to address the complexities of a wide range of inspections. Particular attention will be paid to data analysis and the evaluation of results in terms of existing standards and procedures, drawing on candidates’ practical knowledge of materials, fabrication and in-service conditions. This course is aimed at operators who would like to progress to Level 3 ACFM and will be responsible for procedures covering advanced applications.

Alternative Current Field Measurement: Level Refresher
This course is a combination of the UT Introduction course with appropriate Ultrasonic Testing theory and practical training. This course is PCN recognised and provides excellent preparation for Ultrasonic Testing Level 2 examinations. It meets in full the training hour requirements as specified by the relevant PCN documentation.
