A highly practical course with relevant theoretical background enabling students to achieve a basic understanding of ultrasonic inspection. On completion of the course candidates will be able to calibrate a flaw detector with both compression and shear wave probes, record accurate thickness measurements and locate and size lamination in steel plate. In addition, students will be able to select the correct compression/shear wave probes for the examination of welded butt joints, locate and size defects and finally produce acceptable reports

This programme includes a combination of general theory and specific application theory with procedure writing. It is ideal preparation for PCN Level 3 examinations. The courses meet the training hour requirements as specified in the relevant PCN documentation.

Special Note

Candidates should ideally hold a PCN Level 2 approval in the method as a minimum and have at least 2 years’ experience in NDT/Inspection before attempting a Level 3 course. See also the latest edition of PCN/GEN for the minimum requirements for examinations.Candidates must also pass the PCN Level 3 Basic Module before attempting a PCN Level 3 Main Method. Candidates then may opt to take the course which deals specifically with ultrasonic test information. These are ideal training courses for the PCN Level 3 Practitioner examination, covering basic and main methods.
