Overview

Hardness testing, acid etch inspection, electrical conductivity testing and anodic flaw detection are classed as aerospace materials evaluation methods and are designed for employer based certification schemes in accordance with EN4179 & NAS410.

These courses are ideal for suppliers to aerospace primes such as Airbus, BAE Sytems and Augusta Westland. Courses are carried out at clients facilities and typically one of the materials evaluation method courses and final examination can be completed in one day.

Hardness Testing courses cover Rockwell, Vickers and Brinnel methods of testing steel or aluminium components and assess the physical properties after specified heat treatment has been applied.

Acid etch inspection is used on steel components and is used to detect machining abuse – heat damage from metal finishing processes.

Electrical conductivity is carried out on aluminium components and can be used to assess the physical properties after specified heat treatment has been applied. This method can also be used to detect machining abuse.

Anodic flaw detection uses a chromic acid process to detect surface defects on aluminium components such as cracks and machining abuse.

Course Significance

Add Your Heading Text Here

A highly practical course with relevant theoretical background enabling students to achieve a basic understanding of ultrasonic inspection. On completion of the course candidates will be able to calibrate a flaw detector with both compression and shear wave probes, record accurate thickness measurements and locate and size lamination in steel plate. In addition, students will be able to select the correct compression/shear wave probes for the examination of welded butt joints, locate and size defects and finally produce acceptable reports.
